Program Description

Would you like to build a career as a carpenter? Then start with the Carpentry program at Hennepin Tech. As a student you will gain the knowledge and hands-on experience to construct, install, erect and repair structures to comply with all existing codes and in a manner that exhibits skill and craftsmanship. You will also learn to read blueprints, sketches and specifications for types of materials required and standards of work. Get hands-on training with hand tools, power tools and equipment. From floor and wall framing to roofing to insulation, this program gives you the foundation for a career in carpentry.

Students also learn to incorporate appropriate (climate specific) building materials, systems and technologies, and make design and material selections based on current applied building-science principles and sustainable design/green building practices.

Tools Required

A tool list will be provided on the first day of class and instructors will work with students to help them create an individualized tool purchasing plan. Various suppliers provide tools at a a discounted price to students enrolled in the program and range from $500 to $2500.
