Skills Required

In general, the Information Technology program is designed to accept students at any level of computer familiarity. Initial placement testing will help best identify what courses students coming into the program should start with. Please see your enrollment counselor for assessment exemptions.

Job Outlook

According to Minnesota State CAREERwise Education  (www.careerwise.minnstate.edu), IT careers that are expected to grow at a fast rate (4%-11% growth) from 2014 to 2024 including Web Developers, Computer Systems Analysts, Computer and Information Systems Managers, Information Security Analysts, Applications Software Developers,  Computer User Support Specialists,  Computer Network Support Specialists, Computer Network Architects, Network and Computer Systems Administrators, and Systems Software Developers.

The Information Technology program has an advisory committee of professionals working in the fields of programming, database administration, IT support, and network administration. The advisory committee reviews the coursework to ensure that the program is covering material needed to be marketable in your field of study. This allows the faculty to continue to offer current materials and technical skill development in each area.
