Hennepin Technical College Promotes Campus Diversity

In an ongoing effort to foster a culture of inclusion and one that celebrates diversity, Hennepin Technical College’s (HTC) Office of Equity and Inclusion and Diversity Committee hosted two documentary exhibits about refugees and immigrants in Minnesota.  The goal of the exhibits was to promote understanding about the plight and experiences of refugees and immigrants.

The exhibits, When Home Won’t Let You Stay and Green Card Voices Twin Cities, were sponsored by HTC and co-sponsored by the City of Brooklyn Park.   Each exhibit was also paired with an event or workshop.  When Home Won’t Let You Stay had a third sponsor--Hennepin County Brooklyn Park Library—and was teamed with a city-wide community forum featuring artist James A. Bowey.  In addition, a workshop on refugee resettlement was also facilitated by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.  However, the Green Card Voices Twin Cities exhibit was tied to a community engagement event, ‘We are Brooklyn Park,” that featured city officials, the police chief and a discussion on immigration in our community.

More than 200 persons from the college and surrounding community viewed the exhibits.  The exhibits were as follows:
