Hennepin Technical College announces new Academic Dean for General Education

m-johnson.jpgMr. Mark Johnson has accepted the position of Academic Dean-General Education reporting to Dr. Carmen Coballes-Vega, Provost, effective January 16, 2018. Mr. Johnson is currently the Dean of Business and Technology at San Jacinto College, North Campus (Houston, TX) where he is responsible for 19 career and technical credit programs, $9.5M budget, four department chairs, seven support staff, 100 faculty and 3 federal grants. Prior to becoming the Dean, he was the Department Chair of English, Humanities and Modern Languages at San Jacinto College where he led all 3 departments, oversaw 10 full-time and over 30-part-time faculty, managed a $1.1M budget, and was responsible for over 2,000 enrolled students. Mr. Johnson has led major college initiatives including the Achieving the Dream Open Educational Resources Degree Grant, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) planning and assessment, Carl Perkins Leadership Grant, and AACC Pathways.

Before moving into administration, Mr. Johnson was a full-time English faculty at San Jacinto College and previously taught English full-time at Winona State University (Winona, MN). He was an adjunct faculty member at University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Outside of higher education, Mr. Johnson has worked as a prosecutor in the Dakota County Attorney’s Office (Hastings, MN).

Mark Johnson has an A.A.S. in General Studies, University of Wisconsin Center, Baraboo/Sauk County; a B.A. in English, University of Wisconsin, La Crosse; an M.A. in English and Literature, Winona State University; and a J.D. in Law, William Mitchell College of Law (St. Paul, MN).
