Save The Date - 14th Annual M-STEP
December 1 & 2, 2015
Brooklyn Center, Minnesota

M-STEP 2014, sponsored by Customized Training Services, proved once again to be an outstanding industry event, with expert speakers from a wide variety of respected law enforcement agencies and private organizations, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the Children’s Environmental Protection Alliance. Topics ranged from Human Trafficking, the Minnesota Drug Threat, Minnesota State Emergency Response Teams, Radical Right Domestic Extremist Movement to Current Terrorist Threats to Minnesota and the Nation.

The 2014 conference also featured a panel discussion about “Compassion Fatigue” hosted by Kai Hjermstad, the HTC EMS and Community Paramedicine Director. This educational presentation raised awareness and understanding about this traumatic stress disorder, which effects not only the first responder community and but also their co-workers and families. Because of the unusually high rate of suicide within the first responder community, educating at-risk professionals in this field about the warning signs and symptoms of Compassion Fatigue is an important initiative. Plans are underway to continue to present training and awareness about Compassion Fatigue at future EMS conferences.
