Veterinary Assistant

60 Hours of Course Instruction:

  • In-Person Classroom Instruction: 30 hours
  • Online Learning: 30 hours

Possible Internship: 40 hours of arranged internship. Internships are limited due to Covid-19 and may not be available for this course.

This program will provide the student with the skills, knowledge and hands-on experience to begin a new career path working with animals. Topics include professional conduct, medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, disease, behavior and restraint, and patient care.

  • Not Included: Some internships require students to wear scrubs, which are not included in the tuition cost and must be purchased out of pocket.

Prerequisites:

  • Qualifying reading assessment score via the Accuplacer exam in the HTC Testing Center, or transcripts confirming qualifications for a test waiver. (See below for further instructions on the test scheduling and test waiver process).
  • 17 years of age or older

Test Scheduling Instructions:

Prior to registration, you must either take the Accuplacer Reading exam (available at the HTC Testing Center free of charge) or provide copies of official transcripts confirming qualifications for a test waiver.

  • Prerequisite Qualifications:
    • Hennepin Tech Accuplacer Exam Passing Score:
      • Classic Test: 78 or Higher, or
      • Next Gen Test: 253 or Higher
    • If you have transcripts confirming completion of a college-level English course with a C letter grade or higher, you may qualify for a test waiver.

To initiate the test waiver or Accuplacer exam scheduling process, please e-mail CTS Registration at  cts.registration@hennepintech.edu and identify the course you are interested in registering for. CTS Registration will serve as the liaison for exam scheduling through the Hennepin Tech Testing Center and will assess test waiver qualifications. Upon presenting your passing test score or waiver verification to CTS Registration, CTS will maintain copies of these documents and move forward in processing course registration. (See below for detailed course registration instructions).

Financial Assistance:

This course is approved under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) allowing qualifying participants to receive tuition reimbursement. To determine your eligibility status, please contact your local CareerForce center.

Please note that courses offered through Continuing Education and Customized Training are not Financial Aid eligible; however, as noted above, you may seek funding or assistance from an outside source such as a Government Program, Workforce Agency, Employment Center or Employer.

Course Registration Instructions:

After meeting the above Accuplacer test score or test waiver requirements, you may proceed with course registration by following the below steps:

  • Personal Payment (i.e., tuition being covered out-of-pocket and not by an outside source):
    • Please e-mail the following information to cts.registration@hennepintech.edu:
      • The course name you are interested in registering for
      • Either your passing Accuplacer exam results or test waiver verification
      • A completed CTS Registration Form (See below “Registration Forms” section)
  • 3rd Party Payment (i.e., tuition being covered by an outside source, such as a Government Program, Workforce Agency, Employment Center or Employer):
    • Please e-mail the following information to cts.registration@hennepintech.edu:
      • The course name you are interested in registering for
      • Either your passing Accuplacer exam results or test waiver verification
      • A completed CTS Registration Form (See below “Registration Forms” section) 
      • A completed payment form from the 3rd party funding source:
        • 3rd Party Payment Form Options:
          • CTS 3rd Party Authorization for Payment Form (See below “Registration Forms” section) or…
          • Other Forms: Any PO or Payment Authorization Form provided by the 3rd party organization
