Spring 2021 Commencement

The Hennepin Technical College Commencement (graduation) Task Force is working hard to plan well in advance for the Friday, May 14, 2021 graduation celebration. A memorable celebration in honor of the hard work of our graduates and their families is a top priority while still complying with the rules put forth by the Minnesota Department of Health and the Governor's office. The task force has conducted a student survey, met with student groups, faculty, and staff to gather ideas and input about the event in case a traditional commencement can not be held.

Hennepin Technical College has a contractual obligation to the Minneapolis Convention Center and based on that timeline, students and the campus community will be notified in early April about which Ceremony option will be selected from the list below for the Friday, May 14, 2021 event.

Ceremony Option A

Modified Traditional Ceremony on Friday, May 14, 2021

A ceremony with comprehensive social distancing measures at the Minneapolis Convention Center

Ceremony Option B

Fully Socially-Distanced Ceremony on Friday, May 14, 2021
We are researching on-campus alternate event options, in case public health authorities do not allow large indoor gatherings in the spring of 2021…  An example of a fully socially distanced event is, earlier this year, many Minnesota high schools presented diplomas to graduates outside, by appointment.

Regardless of the ceremony option, the event will be lived streamed, you will get a cap, gown, and tassel, in addition to any academic honors you have earned.
