Advising

The goal of Advising at Hennepin Technical College is to assist students in making maximum progress toward their educational, career, and personal goals. To help with your success, we provide the following services:

Enrollment Advisors

Enrollment Advisors provide a supportive environment to assist students with goal-setting, academic planning, interpretation of assessment results, course selection, and referral to appropriate resources for academic and personal success.

Appointments

Schedule a 30-minute appointment to meet with an Enrollment Advisor by calling 952-995-1300.

Common 30-minute appointment topics include:

  • Registering for next semester courses
  • Graduation planning
  • DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System) review
  • Assistance with appeals (Max Time Frame, Pell Census, and Student Appeals)

Express Advising

Have a quick question? We prefer that our students schedule appointments with an Enrollment Advisor to make the most of everyone's time.  If that's simply not an option, it may be possible to meet with an Enrollment Advisor for a quick Express Advising session.

Common Express Advising topics include:

  • Assistance with eServices
  • Changing your major
  • Adding or dropping a course
  • Policy questions.

Students are required to check in at the Enrollment Services Front Desk to reserve a Express Advising spot for the day.  Students will be seen in the order in which they check in.

* As of Spring 2020, Express Advising will generally be available to students Monday - Friday. There may, however, be days in which Express Advising is NOT available. Call 952-995-1300 to confirm the day's schedule.

Advising Options

Can’t make it to campus but really need to meet with an Enrollment Advisor? We have other options! Students can schedule phone appointments, send questions and get answers through email, or meet via video chat. To schedule an appointment, call 995-952-1300.

Faculty Advisors

Faculty Advisors provide assistance in planning a program of study consistent with the students’ educational and employment objectives. All students with a declared major are encouraged to meet with their faculty advisor during Advising Month, which is held each semester prior to registration, or any time they have questions regarding their technical program courses.

Students can look up their specific faculty advisors in eServices under Courses & Registration > View/Modify Schedule, and may schedule a time to meet by contacting the advisor directly.  See the Employee Directory for faculty contact information.
