Minnesota Legislative Exchange Brings Bipartisan Lawmakers to Hennepin Tech

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Hennepin Technical College welcomed Minnesota legislators Rep. Nathan Nelson and Rep. Huldah Momanyi-Hiltsley on July 22 as part of the Minnesota Legislative Exchange (MLE), a bipartisan leadership program hosted by the Citizens League.

The Minnesota Legislative Exchange brings together legislators from different political parties and districts to build relationships, gain a deeper understanding of communities across the state, and explore shared challenges and opportunities. Through visits with local education, business, civic, and community leaders, the program encourages collaboration to inform future policymaking.

During their visit to Hennepin Tech, the legislators toured several programs that prepare students for high-demand careers across Minnesota.

The visit included a stop at the college’s Peace Officer program, where they learned about Hennepin Tech’s recently acquired squad vehicles that provide students with realistic, hands-on training aligned with today’s law enforcement practices.

The legislators also toured the Landscape and Horticulture program‘s greenhouses, home to the college’s annual student Plant Sale. The greenhouses provide students with practical experience in plant production, greenhouse management, and landscape design while supporting community engagement through the popular spring event.

“Hennepin Tech appreciates opportunities to showcase the innovative, hands-on education taking place on our campuses,” said Joy Bodin, President of Hennepin Tech. “Visits like this help demonstrate how technical education prepares students with the skills employers need while strengthening Minnesota’s workforce.”

Hennepin Technical College was honored to participate in the Minnesota Legislative Exchange and share how partnerships between education, government, industry, and community organizations contribute to student success and the state’s economic vitality.
