Program Description

Accountants process the financial transactions and information for businesses, government, and non-profit entities. The study of accounting will familiarize students with the "language of business." It is a vital part of virtually every business organization.

At Hennepin Tech, you will learn how to design financial systems, record information, and interpret profit and loss statements. From income statement preparation and data processing to cost accounting and payroll, you will develop skills to launch or advance your career.

The Accounting program prepares you for just about any kind of entry accounting position in the workforce. There are no other additional requirements to begin the Accounting major beside the regular admissions process.

Accountants are needed in every type of service or manufacturing operation. You may be employed by financial institutions, governmental agencies, private business or in public accounting firms. America’s continuing shift to a world-wide service-oriented economy has resulted in an accelerating demand for individuals who possess financial knowledge and accounting skills.

If you choose to further your education after graduating from Hennepin Tech, the college has several articulation agreements for you to choose from:

Metro State University - Bachelor's in Accounting

The Hennepin Technical College Accounting curriculum is designed to help prepare students for employment in Minnesota. At this time, Hennepin Technical College is unable to make a determination if the Accounting programs meet the licensing requirements for any state or US protectorate. You will want to contact the licensing board in which state you intend to pursue licensure for their requirements, below we provide a link to a list of each state's licensing board.

Industry Partners

The Accounting Department at Hennepin Tech relies on an advisory committee for advice, guidance, and approval for major department decisions. Members of the committee consist of upper level accounting professionals currently working in the accounting profession.
