If you have an interest in health and medicine and are looking for a meaningful job where you can help others, becoming a medical assistant could be the right career choice for you. Medical assistants work alongside physicians in medical offices and clinics to provide the best possible care for patients, and play an integral role in patient care management.

HTC's Medical Assistant Program expectations are to prepare competent entry level Medical Assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. This healthcare career will also prepare you to be a multi-skilled professional who effectively performs clinical, laboratory, and administrative duties. With an aging population and an aging workforce, the demand for health care professionals will continue to increase. HTC offers you a great start to a Medical Assisting career!

Job Outlook

The medical assistant occupation is growing due to technological advances in medicine that are allowing more disorders to be treated, and a growing elderly population that will most likely need increased medical attention. In addition, some health care providers are shifting tasks from nurses to medical assistants, which is also increasing the demand for these workers.

Job prospects should be excellent for medical assistants who have formal training or experience, and most job openings will be in doctors' offices and clinics.

Industry partners

The Medical Assistant program is required to have an advisory committee. HTC's Advisory Committtee includes a nurse practioner, clinic managers, program faculty, other Hennepin Technical College staff members, current and former students, and members from the community at large. The advisory committee meets a minimum of twice per year and advises HTC's faculty on current trends in the industry, technology, current courses, new course propsals, and curriculum goals.
