Hmong cultural event at Hennepin Technical College

Brooklyn Park, November 21, 2019 – Hennepin Technical College (HTC) hosted its first-ever Hmong New Year event.

Hennepin Tech employees of Hmong descent organized the culture and arts celebration. The tech school is very diverse and has a significant number of students from Southeast Asia. The performance showcased dancers, singers, and musicians who represent the Hmong community.

“I’m hoping that people got a little glimpse of being exposed to a different culture,” said Jean Maierhofer. “Learning about some of the traditions about another culture. And hopefully that helps us be a much more welcoming and inclusive place.”

The Hmong New Year is a time to honor ancestors and give thanks for the completion of the fall harvest.
