Immigrant & Refugee Resources

Because we welcome immigrant and refugee students, we have created a collection of Immigrant and Refugee Resources. In addition to our Guide to Supporting Safe and Inclusive Campus Climates, we also provide referrals to community resources for DACA: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Free Legal Clinics.

Change of Designated Gender Marker

All students self-report their gender when applying to Hennepin Technical College. If a student wishes to change their designated gender at any time, for any reason, the student can complete the Student Information Change Form and submit it to the Enrollment Services desk at either campus. No explanation or proof of legal gender marker is needed. Students must show a photo ID to verify their identity. At this time, we are only able to support binary genders: male or female. This is a limitation through the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System Office and the current record-keeping software. We value student feedback and are working to widen the gender options.

Access Services

The Access Services Offices assists students, faculty, and staff to provide access to our programs, services, and activities. The Access Services webpage includes links to disability law, disability policies and procedures, information for parents, information for students, resources and links, and services for Deaf students.

International Students

We welcome International Students and have many resources to help International Students achieve success. Please check our International Admissions Requirements for resources on the application process.

Lactation Space

We support and accommodate pregnant and parenting students under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (June 2013) from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights. As part of our Pregnant and Parenting Rights resources, we offer a Lactation Space at each campus, available from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday:

  • Brooklyn Park campus: Room C139
  • Eden Prairie campus: Room D102 (inside D Pod)

Preferred Name Policy

In keeping with Minnesota State Colleges & Universities Preferred Name policy, we offer the Preferred Name Request. This form allows students to designate a preferred name to be used in all college records (with the exception of federally-maintained records, such as transcript and financial aid). The preferred name will be reflected on student ID cards, faculty rosters, D2L, eServices, and any awards earned.

Reflection Room

The Reflection Room is a quiet space students, faculty, and staff may use for quiet, personal reflection. Please be respectful of other individuals who are using the space. We offer a Reflection Space at each campus, with a schedule that changes each semester.
