CLEP Testing


HTC on-campus Testing Service Offices are able to provide limited scope testing for current HTC students ONLY

These testing services are specifically limited to:

  • Course Placement
  • Make-up Exam
  • Industry exams required for admission to or graduation from HTC programs 

This DOES NOT include CLEP testing, real estate or other commercial exams.

NOTE: The designation “Open” in the Test Center Search results indicates that a test center has administered CLEP exams in the past.  It is not an indication that the center is currently administering CLEP exams.

CLEP provides students of any age the opportunity to earn college credit by earning qualifying scores on any of the 33 CLEP examinations. Hennepin Technical College has two Testing Centers: Brooklyn Park or Eden Prairie. Because our schedule can change without notice, you must contact the Testing Center for either campus by email or phone (see contact information below) to schedule an appointment. Email is preferred. Please specify which exam(s) you are scheduling when you make your test appoinment. 

Please note: CLEP Testing is not available in May, June, July, August, and December.

Why should I take a CLEP test?

Save time. Get college credit for what you have learned through independent study, advanced high school courses, non-credit adult courses, or professional development.

Save money. Compare the cost of a CLEP exam fee: $80 to the cost of tuition. CLEP exams are free to active military service members.

Satisfy a proficiency requirement. Demonstrate you have already mastered the content of college math or a foreign language.

What should I bring to my CLEP test?

Your ID: ID must be government issued (driver's license, passport, state ID, etc.)

Payment: $25 administrative fee (payable to HTC by cash, check or credit card)

Exam ticket fee: $87 payable to CLEP when you sign up for the test at

What materials will be provided by the Testing Center?

  • Scratch paper and pencils
  • Ear plugs and noise canceling headphones are available
