Counseling
Professional counselors serve the college community by providing academic, career, and personal counseling to students in a confidential setting. Students can visit with counselors regarding a wide variety of concerns, including managing stress, developing career goals, creating academic plans, and understanding college policies. Counselors may refer students to the appropriate campus and/or community resources to best serve the needs of the student.
Academic Counseling
Transitioning to college can be challenging; some of those challenges may include not knowing how or where to access resources, managing your time, or creating an academic plan that is individualized to the demands of your life. The Hennepin Tech counselors can help navigate the challenges and transitions students experience in college.
Students who are not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress can be experiencing a lot of stress and may have questions about their academic standing at the college.
Counselors assist these students on academic warning, suspension, and probation by formulating plans to help them accomplish their academic, career, and personal goal.
The Counselors serve as the faculty advisors for all students in the Individualized Studies and Health Science (Broad Field) programs.
Career Counseling
If you are unsure of what you would like to study or how to reach your professional goals, career counseling may be beneficial. Career counseling will help you explore your interests, aptitudes, skills, personality and values and translate those traits into potential career options.
If you are interested in taking a free aptitude and career discovery assessment, please complete an interest form. You will receive an email 1 to 3 days after requesting a career counseling assessment with a link from YouScience to complete a series of brain games. These brain games will take 90-minutes. We advise you to spread the games out over a day, or even a few days for the best results.
After your assessment, you'll be able to see your results and then book an appointment with a counselor to discuss the results more in depth and plan your next steps.
Personal Counseling
Sometimes it is important to discuss life and academic issues privately with a counselor. Currently enrolled students are invited to set an appointment with an Hennepin Tech Counselor as needed. These services are provided free of charge to currently enrolled students.
