Hennepin Technical College urges participation in “Ending the Silence on Racism”
Brooklyn Park, August 20, 2020 – Hennepin Technical College (HTC) stands in solidarity with our Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities.
We are launching a new initiative, “Ending the Silence on Racism.” Through this campaign, we invite our campus and the broader community to learn more about the devastating harm of systemic racism and engage in critical conversations about racial equity and social justice.
“Ending the Silence on Racism” will provide information, resources and educational opportunities. In addition, the campaign will bring greater awareness to the actions and progress HTC is making to ensure that Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities have equal access to opportunities and higher education.
After the horrific death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis Police Department officers who swore to protect and serve, HTC organized listening sessions for students, faculty, and staff. Many participants expressed the need to educate themselves further and find a way to speak up and take action on issues of social justice. With input from those listening sessions, the college launched the “Ending the Silence on Racism” initiative.
We urge students, faculty, staff, stakeholders and industry partners to engage with the college as we learn together, listen to each other and challenge ourselves to play a role in creating a more equitable future.
