Course Series

This series includes the following classes: 

Editing for the Professional Mix:

Description: Have you ever wondered why, although your tracks have been recorded with purpose, your mixes just don't sound finished, or professional? There are many elements to the process, and in this first part of a three-part series, the student will go through the editing process that prepares the tracks for a truly professional result. Particular focus will be on the efficient and proper use of Avid's Beat Detective and Elastic Time, editing to grid, Pitch Correction, editing with groups, and Avid's Sound Replacer Plug-ins. Students will work in pairs, each assigned their own Pro Tools HDX studio, and may be permitted to bring in their own material to edit (upon instructor approval). Of course, tracks will be provided in the event that the student does not have material to edit. This is a combination lecture/lab course. The final product of the course would be for each pair of students to have three edited songs/projects ready to be signal processed and mixed. 1.8 CEU's

Pro Tools 130:

Description: Pro Tools for game audio covers the core elements of building audio for gaming, and interfaces with Unity © game development software in concert with Pro Tools. Understanding the Game Audio Workflow, Working with Foley, Working with Dialogue, Working with Sound Effects,  Working with Backgrounds, Working with music, Working with Vehicle Sounds and Working with Cinematics. 1.6 CEU

Advanced Signal Processing for the Professional Mix:

Description: This course covers advanced signal processing techniques, such as the proper use of VGAs, digital delays and modulation effects, equalizers, and reverbs in the context of building a professional mix. While part two of a three-part series, this course may be taken as a stand-alone module, and is a combination lecture/lab course. Students will work in pairs; each assigned their own Pro Tools HDX studio, and may be permitted to bring in their own material to signal process. Of course, tracks will be provided in the event that the student does not have material to edit. 1.4 CEU

Advanced Automation for the Professional Mix:

Description: This course covers advanced automation techniques within the context of building a professional mix. While part three of a three-part series, this course may be taken as a stand-alone module, and is a combination lecture/lab course. Students will work in pairs; each assigned their own Pro Tools HDX studio, and may be permitted to bring in their own material to signal process. Of course, tracks will be provided in the event that the student does not have material to edit. Particular emphasis will be placed on both midi and Pro Tools automation (modes, workflow, etc.), in addition to mixing with Avid control/work surfaces and digital mixers. 1.4 CEU'S

Mastering for the Professional Mix:

Description: This course covers the process of mastering in the context of building a professional mix. While part three of a three-part series, this course may be taken as a stand-alone module, and is a combination lecture/lab course. Students will work in pairs, each assigned their own Pro Tools HDX studio, and may be permitted to bring in their own material to master. Of course, tracks will be provided in the event that the student does not have material to edit. Particular emphasis will be placed on both the workflow and signal processing of the final mix, as well as the proper formatting of the masters for duplication. 1.1 CEU'S

 

This series includes the following classes:

Introduction to Audio Production:

Description: This course teaches the theory and application of analog audio production and signal flow, including analog tape editing and recording techniques. Students will complete three "industrial" studio projects as part of the course. 3.5 CEU

Pro Tools 101:

Description: This course focuses on the theory and application of digital audio theory, with the completion of a minimum of 2 studio projects as part of the Pro Tools 101 certified curriculum (which is included in this course). 1.6 CEU

Pro Tools 110: Description: Based on the Avid certified curriculum for Pro Tools 110, students will learn through both lecture and studio application the operation of Pro Tools. It is highly recommended that the student complete Pro Tools 101 before taking this course. 1.7 CEU

Advanced Industrial Production:

Description: Using nearly 40 hours of studio time, students will record and complete an abbreviated "radio play" that represents that demands of current professional digital audio production, including the utilization of the Sonomic Sound effects server, Pro Tools HDX, digital and analog consoles, as well as digital and analog signal processing. 2.8 CEU

Pro Tools 101:

Description:This course focuses on the theory and application of digital audio theory, with the completion of a minimum of 2 studio projects as part of the Pro Tools 101 certified curriculum (which is included in this course). 1.6 CEU

Pro Tools 110:

Description:Based on the Avid certified curriculum for Pro Tools 110, students will learn through both lecture and studio application the operation of Pro Tools. It is highly recommended that the student complete Pro Tools 101 before taking this course. 1.7 CEU

Pro Tools 130:
