English Language Learners (ELL) are an important part of the HTC college community. HTC's goal is to help students be successful at HTC and beyond.  Students who want to succeed in a technical college program need a deep understanding of English, a strong vocabulary, good study skills, and knowledge of American Culture.

HTC has set up services to assist immigrant students as they pursue their technical education. Enrollment advisors are available to support students with college services and needs such as:

  • Course selection and review of Accuplacer test scores
  • Assist with registration and scheduling
  • Orientation for new ESOL students
  • Career exploration
  • Financial aid applications
  • Scholarship applications
  • Referrals to tutoring
  • Community service referrals

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Courses
The ESOL courses prepare students for enrollment in technical careers and college-level general education courses.  ESOL courses focus on student's academic and career skills. Students learn college reading, grammar, writing, communication, pronunciation, and technology skills needed for college success. They study terminology used in different technical courses.

In addition to the credit based ESOL courses, HTC offers non-credit hour based (CEUs) courses through Continuing Education (Customized Training Services)
