All documents must be submitted by the student with their STARID or TECHID attached. Any documents submitted by another person/party without a Consent to Release form processed will be invalid. All documents must be submitted together and at the same time.

Step 1: Complete Application
Create STAR ID
- Required if you are transferring from a college or university outside of the Minnesota State College System.
Important Note:
There is an Application Fee of $20. Please refer back to the summary email sent by the International Admissions Recruiter to find the Fee Waiver Code. If you have not gotten the summary email or have not met with the International Admissions Recruiter, please reach out to the International Admissions team at International@Hennepintech.edu
Step 2: Submission Copy of Passport and Current Visa

Step 3: Submission of Transcript
F1 MN State Transfer Student:
- If you are a student transferring from any of these colleges, make sure that you apply to Hennepin Technical College with the same Star ID you used from the previous Minnesota State college that you attended.
- With applying with the same Star ID, your transcripts will automatically be sent to our institution. You will not need to pay for an external transcript evaluation.
- Your transcript will officially be evaluated once Student Orientation is done.
F1 Out of State Transfer Student:
Important Note:
If you are transferring from different college from another state (in the United States), you will need to go through the Official Transcript Evaluation Process. You must request an Official transcript from your previous school/college/university to be sent to Hennepin Technical College. Please choose one of the three evaluation options: a physical transcript, an electronic document, or a scanned copy.

Step 5: Submission of I-20 from Previous Institution

Step 6: Submission Copy of I-94 Form
The I-94 form is the Arrival/Departure Record that documents the entry and exit of foreign visitors to the United States. It provides proof of a visitor’s legal status and authorized stay in the U.S. This form should have been filled/given when you first arrived in the United States.

Step 7: Submission of Personal Finances
You must submit a personal notarized, current, original bank statement showing a balance of at least $31,270 in U.S. currency to demonstrate adequate financial support to cover all educational and living expenses while you study at Hennepin Technical College. The bank statement must be in English, certified by a bank official, and not less than two (2) months old at the time of application (dated within the past two months from the application date).
- Once completed, send to International@Hennepintech.edu with STARID or TECH ID attached to the email.
Notarized bank statements must be signed or stamped by a bank representative.

Step 8: Required if You Have a Sponsor
- The student must submit a Consent to Release Form stating their sponsor will be sending supporting documentation
- Your sponsor must submit a copy of the Affidavit of Support (I-134)
- Your Sponsor must submit a notarized, current, original bank statement showing a balance of at least $31,270 in U.S. currency. The bank statement must be in English, certified by a bank official, and not less than two (2) months old at the time of application (dated within the past two months from the application date).
- Once completed, send to International@Hennepintech.edu with student’s STARID or TECH ID attached to the email.
Notarized bank statements must be signed or stamped by a bank representative.

Once all the above steps and documents have been submitted, you will receive an Acceptance Letter from Hennepin Technical College and can continue with Step 9.
Step 9: SEVIS Transfer
- Student must complete SEVIS Transfer Form with current DSO
- Once completed, send to International@Hennepintech.edu with STARID or TECH ID attached to the email.
On the day of your SEVIS release/transfer date, you will receive a confirmation/denial email. If your SEVIS is released, you will be an official student at Hennepin Technical College. If not, please wait for further notice by the International Student Team on your next steps. For any further questions or concerns, please email International@Hennepintech.edu
