What is the Statement of Equivalency?
The Statement of Equivalency (SoE) is a discipline-specific statement written by the
Faculty Liaison to document how Concurrent Enrollment (CE) courses are equivalent to
the corresponding courses taught at Hennepin Technical College (HTC).
The SoE should demonstrate that CE courses maintain comparable academic expectations,
student learning outcomes, course content, assessment practices, and grading standards.
The Faculty Liaison should address the following areas:
-
Academic Freedom – Describe how academic freedom and the integrity
of the college course are maintained in the Concurrent Enrollment setting.
-
Student Learning Outcomes – Describe how the CE course addresses
the same or equivalent student learning outcomes as the corresponding HTC course.
-
Syllabus Review – Describe how the CE syllabus is reviewed and
aligned with the corresponding HTC course, including course content and learning
outcomes.
-
Assessment Review – Describe how assessments are reviewed to ensure
they appropriately measure the expected learning outcomes and maintain comparable
academic expectations.
-
Grading Standards – Describe how grading practices and standards
are consistent with those of the corresponding HTC course.
-
Theoretical and Philosophical Orientation – Describe how the CE
course reflects the theories, principles, and/or philosophical orientation of the
academic discipline consistent with the corresponding HTC course.
-
Explain any differences between the Concurrent Enrollment course and the
corresponding on-campus course or standards, including the rationale for those
differences and how alignment of learning objectives is maintained.
