Procedure Statement

The College Safety Committee oversees college compliance in health and safety regulations and concerns. The College Safety Committee membership is open to all employees and students of Hennepin Tech. The mission of the College Safety Committee is to develop, promote, and provide a safe environment at Hennepin Technical College through the development of pro-active policies, procedures, and recommendations regarding health, safety and security. The committee will promote a safe environment by evaluating safety practices, injury incidents, and by providing a forum for discussion and recommendation. They will also ensure that programs and procedures are developed which remain consistent with college guidelines.

The College Safety Committee will:

  1. Develop and recommend uniform procedures and guidelines.
  2. Develop and recommend guidelines for effective training programs.
  3. Review compliance and monitor progress of safety programs.
  4. Review all reported health and safety incidents at the college, including “near miss” and “lost time” incidents and make recommendations for preventative measures.
  5. Assist in identifying unsafe work practices and conditions and suggest appropriate remedies.
  6. Recommend, review, and ensure that safety training programs are implemented and completed in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures.
  7. Represent all employees regarding health, safety and security related issues, ideas, and solutions.
  8. Inform all employees about new safety and security policies, procedures, training programs, accident causation, and other safety related matters.
  9. Recommend resources to support safety, security and health endeavors through the budget development process.
