Unapologetically Speaking

Understanding and Affirming African American English
This presentation explores the African origins of the ways in which Black people in America structure and create language. We will experience and express some of the systematic patterns, verbal rituals, and distinct vocabulary present in African American English. Framing the ways we speak as a logical linguistic reality can inspire people of African descent to reject the notion that Black English is "bad English", and to affirm the legitimacy, brilliance, creativity, and spirit of Black people.
