Hennepin Tech in the High Schools (Concurrent Enrollment)

Hennepin Tech in the High Schools allows high school students to enroll in college courses at their local high school to earn credits for high school and college at the same time. High school teachers with required credentials teach these Hennepin Tech college-level courses at their high school. Concurrent Enrollment is similar to Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) which allows students to take college courses on Hennepin Tech campuses. To compare Concurrent Enrollment with PSEO and other rigorous courses, view this helpful chart: CE AP PSEO IB Comparison Chart.

Benefits of taking Concurrent Enrollment classes:

  • Save money on college courses (free to participating students in high school)
  • Earn college credit (get a head start, possibly decreasing length of time to degree)
  • Experience college expectations and workload
  • Gain access to college resources
  • Start building your college transcript
  • It’s a demonstration of your commitment to university admissions officials
  • Unlike AP, it concludes with a college grade on a college transcript; AP courses are high school courses that teach to a "one shot" test and may not even count toward general education requirements.

Concurrent Enrollment is sometimes named "College in the Schools" or "dual enrollment". Additional background is available at Minnesota Department of Education and National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).
