Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that Hennepin Technical College is located on the ancestral homelands of the Dakȟóta. The land upon which both campuses are built remains significant to the heritage of both the Dakȟóta and Anishinaabe peoples, and we pay our respect to the elders who have stewarded this land for centuries and continue to do so.

We, as part of this campus community, continue to deepen our awareness of the complex history of American colonialism and our complicity within its systemic practices. We also encourage those of us who are settlers on and visitors to this land to become familiar with the Dakȟóta and Anishinaabe peoples, whose lives and contributions are vital to the integrity of our institution.

Therefore, we recognize that words are not enough. We must ensure that our institution provides support and resources that increase access to all aspects of higher education for our American Indian students, staff, faculty, and community members.

We invite you to learn more about the true history of this land, and to search out the wisdom and stories of the Dakota, Ojibwe, and other Native people still here.
